Lawrence A. Gates is a founder and senior partner in the firm.  Since 1979, Larry has proven his ability to work cooperatively with large and diverse organizations, both in the realm of veterinary medicine and animal sheltering, building consensus in programming and design strategies that ensure a successful project completion.  Larry co-authored with Mark R. Hafen the book Planning and Building an Animal Shelter for the American Humane Association and is a featured speaker at major animal shelter and veterinary conferences in the U.S. and internationally.  His professional involvement includes membership in the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators.
Mark R. Hafen, AIA, NCARB is a founder and senior partner in the firm.  Since 1979, Mark has been the lead architect and chief of design on numerous projects ranging from small veterinary hospitals to large, complex veterinary specialty referral practices throughout the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, he has been involved in the design of animal shelter facilities throughout the U.S.  Mark has authored several books pertaining to the field of animal health care, the most recent being Designing the Future: Innovative Solutions for the Veterinary Medical Facilities of Tomorrow.  Mark is a featured speaker on veterinary facility innovation and design at the major veterinary conferences in the nation.  He is a licensed architect in 40 states.
Tony L. Cochrane, AIA became a partner with the firm in 1988.  A licensed architect, Tony specializes in design.  He excels in directing the layout of even the most complex client requirements in a logical fashion, incorporating excellent circulation patterns in the building design.  Additionally, Tony heads initial conceptual design for building exteriors and finishes.  Tony has also been a featured speaker at major veterinary conferences on the topic of veterinary hospital design.
Bryan M. King, AIA is a licensed architect and became a principal in the firm in 2004.  He brought 12 years of prior experience with him when he joined the firm in 2002.  Bryan is the principal in charge of project management, document production, product specifications, and consultant coordination for both veterinary and animal shelter facilities.  He is also responsible for firm marketing strategies.  Bryan has been a featured speaker at several major national veterinary conferences, giving talks on specific areas of veterinary hospital design.
Heather E. Lewis joined the firm in August 2000 and became a principal in 2004.  Heather’s primary emphasis is on programming and project management in both animal shelter and veterinary hospital projects, as well as specializing in equine facilities.  She is a featured speaker at major national veterinary and animal sheltering conferences and has contributed articles for Veterinary Economics magazine.
Vernita K. Cannon is the business manager for the firm.  Vernita has been with the firm since 1991 and became a principal in 2004.  She is in charge of finances, accounting, accounts payable and receivable, human resources, and public relations.  She also coordinates conventions and speaking arrangements for the firm, as well as marketing and promotional opportunities.
